Senegal has pursued gender equality through landmark legislation: Senegal's Law on Absolute Gender Parity in Elective Bodies 2010 mandated alternating male-female candidate lists, nearly doubling women's National Assembly representation from 22.7% to 42.7% in 2012 and raising local representation to 47% in 2014 (sustained at 44% in 2022).
