What works in Chad

Chad faces significant education and displacement challenges, with around 1.3–1.5 million forcibly displaced people and extremely low primary learning outcomes. Evidence-based interventions show promise: Can't Wait to Learn demonstrated that tablet-based numeracy games can help children learn 50% more than peers in standard lessons, with girls closing initial numeracy gaps four times faster than boys. SWEDD reached 127,000 girls with academic and financial support by 2024, coinciding with girls' primary-school attendance rising to 83%, though this gains data relies on programme monitoring rather than independent evaluation. Connectivity remains a major barrier, with only 1–3% of refugees in Chad having 4G access, though four connected centres have recently been established—though no beneficiary numbers have yet been published.
