Description

AEI was founded in 2013 in Quito as a neutral convening platform bringing together public agencies, private companies and universities to strengthen Ecuador's entrepreneurship ecosystem.

According to the organisation's own reporting, AEI has supported more than 15,000 entrepreneurs and generated 3,325 jobs and $96 million in sales since its founding, through a network of 185 allies; the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) Ecuador and the UN Global Compact both list AEI as a recognised ecosystem-building actor.

AEI led the multi-year effort (2014–2020) that resulted in Ecuador's Organic Law for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, in force since February 2020 — a national institutional achievement corroborated by academic and GEM literature. Caveat: the reported figures are cumulative, self-reported totals, not the product of an independent, causal impact evaluation, so the jobs and sales cannot be fully attributed to AEI specifically as opposed to broader economic trends.
