Context

"AI Generation" is a free, open-source introduction-to-AI curriculum for Romanian high schools, launched in 2024 by UiPath Foundation (the corporate foundation of the Romanian-founded automation company UiPath) in partnership with the App Inventor Foundation at MIT.

Objectives

The curriculum aims to build AI literacy among Romanian teenagers, including those from underserved communities, and to interest them in AI-related careers, delivered free and bilingually (Romanian/English) to lower barriers to adoption.

Activities

The course was first piloted in 2024 with 94 students aged 15-17 from underserved communities across 20 Romanian counties, delivered online over 14 weeks in 90-minute sessions via the foundation's "Own Your Path" digital platform. During the 2025-2026 school year it was rolled out more broadly through 37 teachers, two of whom now teach it as a full elective subject rather than a supplementary activity.

Results

End-of-course surveys from the 2024 pilot found 97% of participants said they had learned something new about AI and 80% expressed interest in an AI-related career. The 2025-2026 rollout reached 1,665 students; follow-up surveys found 80% still wanted an AI career and 90% felt comfortable explaining AI concepts to peers, and the foundation's own monitoring noted that students from rural areas outperformed those from urban areas on knowledge-assessment quizzes.

Conclusions

The source cautions that these outcomes come from the foundation's own quizzes and feedback forms rather than an independent, peer-reviewed evaluation, that self-reported interest in an AI career is a weak proxy for actual skill acquisition, and that the 1,665-student reach remains a small fraction of Romania's roughly 900,000 secondary-school population.
