The CUHK-Jockey Club AI for the Future Project, launched in 2019 and funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, developed a junior-secondary AI curriculum and teaching-and-learning pack. A team of 14 professors from CUHK's Engineering and Education faculties co-created the curriculum with 17 principals and teachers from 6 secondary schools, so that teachers shaped content and pedagogy rather than receiving a finished product.
A peer-reviewed mixed-methods evaluation (Chiu et al., IEEE Transactions on Education, vol. 65, no. 1, 2022) reports pre/post results from 335 students and eight teachers: students' perceived competence and attitude towards learning AI improved, and the co-creation process increased teachers' AI knowledge and autonomy. Outcomes are self-reported perceptions, not standardised attainment tests, and there is no control group.
CUHK later reported pilot teaching reaching more than 10,000 students and teacher training for 400+ teachers; the materials were adapted into a module for junior secondary level developed with the Education Bureau, and phase two aims to extend AI education to about 238 Hong Kong secondary schools. Counts of participating schools differ between CUHK sources (55 vs 63), and long-term learning outcomes have not been independently evaluated.
