Context

AI4T ('Artificial Intelligence for and by Teachers') is a three-year Erasmus+ Key Action 3 project (2021–2024, 17 partner organisations) coordinated by France Éducation international, run jointly with France, Italy, Ireland and Luxembourg. In Slovenia the project was delivered by the Ministry of Education's Digital Education Service together with the University of Maribor's Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the National Education Institute (Zavod RS za šolstvo).

Objectives

The project aimed to build teachers' AI knowledge and skills for using AI in mathematics, science and foreign-language teaching, through a combined MOOC, interactive online materials and guided webinar training pathway.

Activities

Between October 2022 and March 2023, Slovenia ran an experimental training phase reaching 262 teachers across 73 secondary schools, combining a MOOC, interactive online materials and guided webinar sessions.

Results

The consortium's comparative evaluation report analysed impact only in the three countries with large enough samples — Italy, France and Slovenia — and found the professional-learning pathway was particularly effective at improving teachers' AI knowledge, alongside high teacher satisfaction with the MOOC and webinar formats.

Conclusions

A resulting handbook on AI in education, released under a CC BY 4.0 licence, is freely available in English, French, German, Italian and Slovenian, with a second edition already in development.
