Description
On 9 November 2025, 71 young Haitians in Port-au-Prince received certificates completing Akademi's six-month bootcamp, run in partnership with Université Quisqueya. Tracks included 39 participants in data science and AI, 23 in cybersecurity and 9 in software engineering; the programme is 100% remote, at roughly 20 hours of study per week. Graduate capstone projects applied AI to Haiti-specific problems: two students built a breast-cancer detection model; a data-science and AI team built a national risk-index model combining economic, climatic and environmental indicators to predict food-insecurity risk; and two software-engineering teams built 'Finans Pam' (personal finance) and 'Datakle' (a public-interest data tool). This is descriptive, self-reported information from the programme and covering press, with no independent third-party evaluation yet published on graduate employment outcomes or real-world adoption of the student projects; the programme is fee-based (from $2,500, with scholarships from $250), which may limit access for the poorest students despite the scholarship support.
