Context

Zimbabwe is one of 20 countries in the GEF-8 Sustainable Cities Integrated Program (SCIP), a World Bank-managed platform for nature-positive urban development. Zimbabwe's chapter launched October 2024, targeting Harare and Bulawayo, implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife with FAO technical support.

Objectives

Restore 1,931 ha of forest and 39 ha of wetland in Bulawayo, expand agroforestry, and mitigate 919,444 tonnes of CO2.

Results

At the time of reporting the programme was still at planning stage: next steps were to establish a steering committee and detailed implementation plans; no results yet published.
