State-owned Information Services is onboarding 54 Bulgarian government bodies onto an AI-driven, Google Cloud-built federated Security Operations Centre, part of an EU-backed push to harden the bloc's eastern border against cyber and information threats.
Bulgaria's state-owned IT and security provider, Information Services AD, partnered with Google Cloud to launch an AI-powered "National Cybershield", using Google Cloud Security Operations to give a centralised, federated view of threats across the public sector.
The rollout, announced in May 2026, is designed to bring 54 government entities into the shared, federated security-operations centre, with EU funding supporting the effort as part of a wider regional mandate to secure the EU's eastern border against cyber and hybrid threats.
As a newly announced, vendor-partnered programme, independent evidence of the system's detection accuracy or operational impact is not yet public, and its threat-intelligence methodology is proprietary. Bulgaria has separately been an early mover on public-sector AI, including a sovereign-language-model tax tool at its National Revenue Agency, but that is a distinct initiative from this cybersecurity platform.
