Context

In January 2025 the Basque Government published the Catalogo de algoritmos y sistemas de IA del sector publico de la CAE, the first such register by a Spanish autonomous community, sitting inside its December 2023 Data Governance Strategy.

The catalogue publishes, for each system, its purpose, datasets used, processing method, human-oversight requirement, responsible department and underlying technology; early entries span clinical decision-support, teaching-support, automated housing-assistance evaluation and citizen-service inquiry routing.

Conclusions

The register is still small and young (13 systems at launch), with no independent, published evaluation yet of its effect; its value to date is as a transparency mechanism and a template other regions could adopt.
