On 28 April 2025, Chile's Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation (MinCiencia), working with the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, added five new occupational profiles to ChileValora - Chile's national system for certifying work-based skills without requiring a formal degree: AI Programmer, Generative-AI Interaction Specialist, AI Data Specialist, AI Transformation Consultant, and AI Ethics Auditor. The process began in June 2024 and was completed in under a year.
The government paired the new standards with public funding: SENCE, Chile's national training agency, opened 300 scholarships inside the Talento Digital para Chile programme for AI courses beginning in 2026, and a separate tender trains 2,000 beneficiaries of the Unemployment Solidarity Fund in practical AI skills from August 2025. ChileValora director Ximena Rivillo said the profiles 'open pathways for training, employability, and labour reconversion' for workers who already use AI on the job but lack a formal credential.
Because certification only opened in 2025 and the funded training cohorts begin in 2026, there is not yet any published data on completion rates, job placement or wage effects. The clearest, checkable evidence at this stage is institutional: five specific, publicly documented occupational standards - one of them explicitly an ethics-auditor role - built into Chile's permanent, cross-ministry skills-certification infrastructure.
