digiUP - Interactive groups for digital inclusion through intergenerational dialogue

digiUP is based on the EU Digital Agenda results for 2014, the priorities of the Adult Education Agenda, and earlier research such as the Included project. It responds to the need to address digital-competence learning in Europe, particularly among disadvantaged groups, to avoid social, educational and labour-market exclusion, including among the workforce during a period of economic crisis.

digiUP aimed to benefit adult educators and institutions by providing innovative tools to improve and expand the quality of ICT-related adult education, and to give policymakers responsible for adult education, Roma and migrant inclusion, active ageing and active citizenship a concrete methodology for improvement in these areas. It was designed to be led by its main target group through National Coordination Committees acting as decision-making bodies.

The project produced three main outputs: the digiUP Methodology, for implementing interactive groups in digital-competence learning courses; the digiUP Interactive Guide, addressed to adult educators and providers on how to apply the methodology; and digiUP Training Courses, to help adult educators and other stakeholders implement and understand the guide in depth. Five partner organisations across Germany, Spain, Sweden and Bulgaria worked on developing and testing the methodology.

The project's own description states that almost 80 adult learners at risk of exclusion were expected to enhance their digital competences through the digiUP methodology, and that 60 educators, adult-education providers and volunteers would be trained to deliver ICT learning to disadvantaged groups. These are the project's own stated targets/outputs rather than independently verified outcome data.
