Context

Senior citizens frequently face barriers to using digital services and are under-represented among confident, independent ICT users. The EU project EHLSSA (2014-2017), coordinated by the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg's Institute for Innovation in Learning together with partner universities in Spain and Ireland and the E-Seniors association, set out to strengthen e-inclusion and active ageing for older adults across five European countries: Finland, France, Germany, Ireland and Spain.

Objectives

The project aimed to establish a lasting European Home Learning Service for seniors, offering a learning-management platform and tele-tutor support through national and regional contact points, with the long-term intention of extending the service to further European countries and course offerings.

Activities

Outputs included three e-learning courses tailored to seniors' learning needs with multimedia-enriched content, one training course for tele-tutors supporting individual learners intensively, and the 'EHLSSA Quality Chart' setting out key factors and guidelines for future course development.
