Context
Empleando Digital was a pilot project run by Fundacion Secretariado Gitano (FSG) and the Spanish Red Cross (Cruz Roja Espanola), in close collaboration with and co-financed by the Accenture Foundation and the European Social Fund, running from July 2017 to October 2019 in Spain. It targeted vulnerable groups facing a 'double vulnerability' in an increasingly digitalised labour market, including the Roma community, women distant from the labour market, unemployed people over 45, young people with low qualifications, migrants, refugees and asylum seekers.
Objectives
To modernise the employment programmes and methodologies of FSG and the Spanish Red Cross with digital tools (including analytics and VR training), and to build the digital knowledge and skills of at-risk participants so they could access jobs in an increasingly digital and technological labour market.
Activities
Training of FSG/CRE employment teams and development of new digital tools and methodologies; three types of participant courses — general digital skills courses (Emplea+ methodology, developed with the Accenture Foundation), courses in occupations being digitally transformed, and technology-sector courses in JavaScript and Java delivered with the Accenture Foundation.
Results
More than 8,000 people improved their digital skills through basic and advanced digital skills courses. 235 people took part in 23 courses on digitally transformed occupations. 48 people took part in 4 software development courses (JavaScript and Java), of whom 12 were already working in a technology role by the end of the project. Programme data recorded a total of 9,826 people reached.
Conclusions
The source describes Empleando Digital as an example of digital transformation that changed both organisational methodology/tools and beneficiaries' skills, and as a partnership model between social organisations and a large technology company (Accenture). No independent evaluation was conducted ('Evaluation: No'), so these are the implementing organisations' own reported figures.
