Context

Created in 2006, Cap Digital is Europe's largest digital-innovation cluster (EU Commission-certified 'Cluster of Excellence' since 2014), based in the Seine-Saint-Denis department near Paris.

Objectives

Give learning citizens of all ages access to information, tools, platforms and training for the digital skills and jobs of the future, and specifically bridge the gender gap in digital skills.

Activities

Ran annual innovation workshops for 100 high-school pupils (aged 13-14) per year in partnership with the Seine-Saint-Denis Department, covering emerging digital jobs (VR, digital manufacturing, robotics); ran Wifilles, free after-school coding/STEM programmes for girls; and ran 'EdFab Meetups #Jobs of the future', monthly meetups pairing job-seekers/workers with professionals from emerging digital roles.

Results

Over two years, EdFab Meetups hosted more than 60 speakers across 12 meetups spanning 15 business sectors (e.g. Fablab manager, drone pilot, streamer, cyber athlete, BIM manager, growth hacker, data journalist, computational linguist); the programme reached 54,100 people overall against an initial target of 15,000.
