Description

FINNISH Business and Policy Forum (EVA) in February reported that the representation of women in the upper and middle management of companies, administration and organisations crept up by 0.7 percentage points to 37.5 per cent between 2019 and 2020.

The representation is at an all time high, close to what can be considered the lower threshold for equality – 40 per cent.

Why it's a good practice: Finland continues to trail Latvia (46.2%), Sweden (43.1%), Bulgaria (42.4%), the United States (42.3%), Poland (41.4%) and Iceland (38.6%). The OECD average for female representation in upper and middle management stood at 33.6 per cent, according to ILOSTAT, the central statistics portal of the International Labour Organization (ILO).

The ascent of women to leadership positions has been more steady in Sweden than Finland. In Finland, the proportion of leadership positions held by women decreased five times from the previous year in the past decade, most recently from 34.1 to 31.4 per cent between 2016 and 2017.
