Ethiopia and the UAE jointly train 5 million youth in coding, web development, AI and data science over three years. By March 2025, 580,000 enrolled, 78,800 certified, and 12,875 remote jobs facilitated in four months.
Launched in July 2024 by Ethiopia's Ministry of Innovation and Technology with the UAE government, the Five Million Ethiopian Coders Initiative aims to train five million youth in web development, Android, AI and data science over three years, with centrally monitored regional enrolment quotas.
By March 2025, over 580,000 citizens had enrolled (about 12% of the target in under a year), 78,800 had earned certifications by December 2024, and the programme facilitated remote employment for 12,875 graduates in the first four months of FY2025/26.
