Since September 2023, Armenia's Foundation for Armenian Science and Technology (FAST) has run Generation AI jointly with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, embedding applied AI, Python and advanced algebra as a mandatory part of the public high-school curriculum (grades 10–12) rather than an after-school elective.
The programme's stated goal is to build a national AI and advanced-mathematics talent pipeline, with the ministry targeting expansion to up to 45 schools and over 85% of Armenia's high-school population by 2026–2027.
The curriculum started in 14–16 schools across all seven of Armenia's regions and expanded to 26 schools for the 2025–2026 academic year, with roughly 800 students currently enrolled, up from about 420 students in 15 schools at launch.
In April 2026 the programme's first cohort — 207 graduates from 14 schools — received completion certificates, and Armenia was the only non-U.S. finalist among 110 applicants at the 2025 ASU+GSV Education Innovation Showcase; however, no randomised or quasi-experimental study of learning gains has been published, and FAST itself cites a shortage of qualified AI/Python teachers as a barrier to further scale-up.
Generation AI shows rapid enrollment growth and international recognition, but Armenian commentators note the ministry's own target implies the programme will reach only 10–15% of students as a selective pipeline rather than a universal AI-literacy initiative, and outcome evidence remains limited to scale and graduation counts.
