Córdoba-based Genially reports 60% of revenue from education and 36M+ users worldwide; since 2024 it has added AI image generation, auto-quiz creation and text-to-speech to every plan, and Spain's University of La Laguna now runs teacher-training courses on it.
ES613Genially was founded in Cordoba, Spain in 2015 by Juan Rubio, Chema Roldan and Luis Garcia as an internal project of communications consultancy Ecoavantis, before spinning out into a standalone platform for building interactive presentations, infographics, gamified activities and course materials without coding.
To let teachers and schools create interactive learning content without coding, and, since 2024, to lower the cost barrier to AI-assisted content creation by building AI features into every plan including the free tier.
Since 2024, Genially has added AI image generation, an automatic quiz generator, text-to-speech narration and automatic content translation to every plan. The Universidad de La Laguna's Fundacion General ran an official continuing-education course, 'Diseno de materiales didacticos interactivos para el aprendizaje (Genially)', for teachers in June 2024.
By late 2024 the company reported 36 million users worldwide, more than 300,000 paying customers and over 100,000 clients across 190 countries. At an earlier stage (around 15 million users) roughly 60% of revenue came from the education sector specifically, though this figure predates the 2024 AI rollout and covers the whole company rather than an education-specific, disaggregated metric.
Genially is a widely adopted commercial content-creation platform with a genuine education footprint and free-tier AI features that lower cost barriers for under-resourced schools, but no independent study of learning outcomes from its AI features was found.
