Launched in 2004 following research linking high Gorbals-area (Glasgow) unemployment to low ICT access and skills, this GBP1.1 million library and learning centre (now managed by Glasgow Life) delivers ICT training alongside an employability hub, part of a network of 35 Learndirect Scotland-branded centres.
Of a potential target group of 8,000, more than 60% (5,000) improved their ICT skills (85% of them had no ICT skills at all beforehand); 60 community centres were also supported to acquire ICT skills, and 150 inhabitants found a job.
