Description

GovTech Lab Lithuania, part of Innovation Agency Lithuania and co-funded by the ERDF, runs the GovTech Sandbox as a space for public institutions to test and scale emerging technologies. In the first pilot (2024), public institutions tested AI-supported products; GovTech Lab and the OECD.AI policy entry report 13 and 14 participating organisations respectively.
The pilot produced six concepts exploring possible future interactions between the public sector and AI, co-created using strategic foresight (change drivers, critical uncertainties, scenarios) and published as 'Prompting Public Sector Futures'.
From 2025 to 2027 GovTech Lab leads a 'GovTech AI Sandbox' within the international GovTech4All project, where Estonia, Greece, Malta, Lithuania and Sweden test and validate a co-developed methodology aimed at reducing administrative burden and producing a reusable toolset for scaling AI beyond a single institution.
Caution: the sources give no evaluation of whether the tested AI products worked, no budgets and no named participants; the evidenced output is the set of concepts and the methodology still being validated.
