Context

'Hour of AI in Bangladesh-2026' is a month-long (26 April-26 May 2026) nationwide campaign launched by Bangladesh's Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE), giving every student in grades 6-9 across all secondary schools compulsory exposure to coding, programming and AI concepts, delivered with support from Code.org and technical assistance from Bangladesh's Aspire to Innovate (a2i) programme.

Activities

Delivery runs through a2i's existing 'Shikkhok Batayon' teacher platform, using trained ICT4E Ambassadors and school ICT teachers to run classroom sessions, with students registering via the 'Kishore Batayon' platform and oversight from Regional Deputy Directors and District/Upazila education officers. The rollout reuses infrastructure a2i has built over more than a decade of national digital-education programmes, including its Teachers Portal, which already serves over 600,000 registered educators.

Conclusions

As a newly launched, universally mandatory campaign, no participation counts, completion rates or learning-outcome data have yet been published; its documented value at this stage is national scale and delivery infrastructure rather than measured impact.

Conditions for success

  • pre-existing national teacher and student digital platforms (Shikkhok Batayon, Kishore Batayon) to deliver at scale without new infrastructure
  • a decade of prior a2i digital-education programming providing a trained delivery cascade
  • compulsory, universal enrolment removing opt-in selection bias
