Context

International House Gothenburg (IHG) is a free, publicly funded welcome and integration service for international professionals and their families relocating to Gothenburg and West Sweden, established in 2021 as a tri-institutional collaboration between Business Region Göteborg, Västra Götaland Region and the City of Gothenburg.

Objectives

It aims to be the centrepiece of the region's talent attraction and retention infrastructure, helping incoming international professionals and their accompanying partners settle and integrate.

Activities

IHG runs drop-in sessions (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays), individual appointments and digital advisory across five areas: career guidance, orientation to Swedish systems (healthcare, schools, SFI language classes, municipal registration), job fairs and networking, an International Partner Programme offering dedicated career support to accompanying partners, and cultural/community integration events -- all free of charge.

Results

The Gothenburg region receives roughly 10,000 foreign professionals a year and hosts about 2,300 foreign-owned companies employing 108,000 people, around a fifth of the region's workforce; Gothenburg ranked #1 in the independent Talent City Index Sweden 2024, ahead of Stockholm, for the second consecutive year. These are regional context figures rather than outcomes measured specifically for IHG's own clients.

Conclusions

The source does not report IHG-specific usage numbers, such as how many of the region's newcomers actually use the service, or retention outcomes directly attributable to it.
