Description
In the 2024/25 school year Schleswig-Holstein started a state AI pilot (KI-Modellprojekt) with 10 schools, later widened to 38 schools covering grades 1 to vocational schools. Schools received a state-provided, data-protection-compliant generative text chatbot and image tool, integrated in the state's Online-Pinnwand (OP.SH), plus a school contact person, subject-specific and prompt-engineering training, and weekly IQSH consultation hours. The IQSH and TH Lübeck evaluated the pilot with anonymous voluntary online surveys at three time points and teacher interviews (one multiplier teacher per school). Results presented on 26 June 2026 report rising use, high perceived usefulness for lesson preparation and a clear workload reduction; over 80% would recommend AI use to colleagues and 86% want continued access to an AI tool. Challenges named were a lack of concrete subject-specific examples and hallucinations or inaccurate answers; the evaluators recommend practice-oriented, subject-specific training and time to explore. The insights fed AIS.chat, a free chatbot interface available to all Schleswig-Holstein schools since November 2025. Caution: the press material gives no sample sizes or response rates, participation was voluntary (self-selection likely), and no learning outcomes were measured; the evidence concerns perceived usefulness and workload, not pupil attainment.
