Description
In May 2026 Ceibal's research, evaluation and monitoring department published results from the Encuesta Nacional Docente plus qualitative sessions: three in four primary and secondary teachers already use AI in daily work. Chatbots are the most common use (69%), followed by preparing content (60%), designing activities and assessments (42%) and class planning (38%). Gemini and ChatGPT dominate, frequently through personal accounts in open environments without extra security or privacy protection. The survey sample size was not reported in the press coverage. In June 2026 Ceibal and ANEP answered with a policy response: teachers in primary and secondary education can voluntarily request institutional Ceibal accounts that include a teacher-level Gemini and NotebookLM, operating under security, privacy and data-protection criteria that general consumer terms do not give; AI tools were also expanded in the CREA platform and in Matific and Aleks. ANEP stated that use will be monitored and evaluated. Ceibal reported for 2025 more than 40 trainings, 900+ teachers passing courses and 150+ completing a postgraduate certificate. Evidence limits: the evidence is a usage survey and official communications; no learning-outcome or independent evaluation of the institutional-account rollout has been published yet, and sample details are missing. Its value is the sequence: measure real teacher use first, then provide a safer, voluntary, pedagogically framed alternative to shadow use.
