Description
In November 2024 AI Sweden commissioned Dcipher Analytics to map AI activity across all 290 Swedish municipalities, publishing the result as an open interactive map (kommunkartan.ai.se) and a report. Data collection ran in August-September 2024 and used AI tools on annual reports, databases and surveys. It identified 1,008 AI initiatives active in 2022-2024 in 263 of 290 municipalities (about 90%). The most common areas were education (38% of municipalities), citizen services and communication (35%) and social services, health and eldercare (30%); 61% aimed to improve citizen services and 60% resource efficiency. Caution: this is a mapping of activity, not an outcome evaluation. AI Sweden itself finds that most initiatives are small and uncoordinated and that many municipalities risk staying at pilot stage and duplicating each other. The map is part of a four-year collaboration with Vinnova, DIGG, MUCF and SKR to share guidance and infrastructure.
