Context

On 15 April 2026, Latvia's Ministry of Education and Science, with the State Education Development Agency, launched a national programme to integrate AI into education, aiming for Latvian students, teachers and institutional leaders to be skilled, responsible AI users by 2030. The programme covers five priority areas — AI literacy, AI as a pedagogical tool, digital leadership training for institution heads, safe and ethical AI use, and sovereign Latvian AI infrastructure — and its initial phase targets 15 general-education and 5 vocational-education institutions, with applications closing 19 June 2026.
