The Malawi Girls Can Code Too (MGCC2) project ran three 10-day bootcamps in Dowa, Mzuzu and at the Malawi University of Science & Technology in 2024, training 122 girls (15-24) in AI-platform creation, robotics, coding and digital literacy, funded by Ireland's Embassy.
Malawi Girls Can Code Too (MGCC2), run by UN Women Malawi with the Ministries of Education and Gender, funded by the Embassy of Ireland, ran three residential bootcamps in Dowa, Mzuzu and the southern region between April and July 2024, training girls in coding, robotics, AI-platform creation, IoT and digital literacy.
122 girls and young women took part (27 Dowa, 45 Mzuzu, 50 southern region); participants left with working mobile apps and digital prototypes, per facilitator and UN Women reporting.
UN Women cites Malawi's basic-computer-skills gender gap (7% of men vs 2% of women) as the programme's rationale; continuation depends on renewed Irish Embassy donor funding beyond the 2026 target horizon.
