This is a joint venture between Midlothian Council and Volunteer Midlothian who together completed a successful pilot project that taught pupils as young as seven to code through the Code Club Scotland model using Scratch.
The aim was to teach pupils as young as seven to code, creating a pathway from primary school through to secondary school and then beyond into further education, career or Modern Apprenticeship.
Young participants progressed through coding levels: basics using the BBC micro:bit, advanced activities with Lego Mindstorms robots, and the Python programming language. Secondary school pupils served as volunteers delivering the programme, creating a route into digital for younger pupils while building their own soft skills.
