mytGPT Education: Mauritius pilots a Creole-enabled generative-AI assistant with teacher training in eight public schools

In January 2026 Mauritius' Ministry of Education and Human Resources and Mauritius Telecom launched mytGPT Education, a generative-AI learning assistant available in English, French and phonetic Creole, under an MoU signed in October 2025.
The pilot covers Grades 4, 7, 8 and 9 in eight public schools (four primary, four state secondary) and offers more than 50 resources aligned to the National Curriculum Framework. Teachers can generate quizzes and teaching materials and analyse student performance.
Teacher training ran from December 2025 to January 2026 and covered AI fundamentals, platform use and basic prompt engineering. An earlier July 2025 trial involved 70 Grade 12 students at Collège Maréchal, Rodrigues.
Caution: no learning outcomes, number of teachers trained or data-protection safeguards have been published; the press describes student-data governance only as a factor for wider rollout.
