Saint Kitts and Nevis launched a national gender policy in June 2022 covering 10 priority areas; a 2022 CEDAW review recorded a 400% rise in domestic-violence reports (2019-2020), and by 2025 the government had a cross-ministry focal-point committee and monitoring framework.
On 1 June 2022 the Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis launched the National Gender Equality Policy and Action Plan 2022-2027, developed with UNESCO and UN Women Caribbean support, setting out ten priority areas spanning governance, economic empowerment, education, health and gender-based violence.
The October 2022 CEDAW review recorded domestic-violence reports rising from 87 cases (2019) to 359 cases (2020), a 400% increase, alongside 38% female representation in Cabinet and 86% of registered farmers being male. By 2024 a cross-ministry Gender Focal Point Committee was established, and in 2025 a Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Framework (MELF) was finalised; on 28 October 2025 the country joined six other Caribbean nations signing a Regional Agreement on Legislative and Policy Priorities on Domestic Violence.
The source explicitly cautions that the rise in reported domestic-violence cases plausibly reflects improved awareness and reporting channels rather than a demonstrated reduction in prevalence, and that the policy remains in an early institution-building phase without outcome-level impact evidence yet available.
