In May 2026, Montenegro's National Competence Centre for High-Performance Computing (NCC Montenegro, hosted at the University of Donja Gorica in Podgorica) signed a formal collaboration agreement with the Montenegrin Artificial Intelligence Association (MAIA), an NGO founded in September 2022 that connects researchers, engineers and industry. The agreement commits both organisations to deliver AI training, workshops and professional-development programmes; to support industry through consultancy and joint projects using HPC/AI resources; and to work with universities and public administration to apply AI in education, public services and policy. NCC Montenegro operates under the EuroCC3 project (EuroHPC Joint Undertaking Grant No. 101306701, EU Digital Europe Programme).
The agreement builds on a completed pilot: from 21 September to 21 December 2024, the University of Donja Gorica ran "AIFusion — Artificial Intelligence in Agriculture, Medicine and Energy," a three-month, five-module course (AI fundamentals, computer vision, natural-language processing, AI/S3 applications, and ethics and responsible AI use) funded by Montenegro's Innovation Fund under the EuroCC2/EuroCC4SEE framework. The course concluded with a public HPC/AI Workshop and Student Conference on 21 December 2024, where student teams gave 19 project presentations spanning education, medicine, fashion, mathematics and tourism applications. NCC Montenegro is also a member of the government working group drafting Montenegro's National AI Strategy 2026-2030, whose pillars include skills and capacity development.
Neither the AIFusion course nor the NCC-MAIA agreement publishes participant totals, completion rates or skills-assessment results, so the evidence here is institutional and programmatic rather than outcome-based.
