Context

On 18 July 2025, North Macedonia's Ministry of Education and Science signed a memorandum of cooperation with Brainster, a private Skopje-based digital-skills academy, to introduce artificial intelligence across secondary education. Under the agreement, AI applications span every subject and extracurricular activity rather than a single 'AI class,' and Brainster also supports integrating entrepreneurship into the curriculum.

Objectives

Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska framed the initiative around Macedonia's PISA results, arguing AI tools should push students toward creative thinking rather than rote recall.

Activities

Alongside the memorandum, the Ministry and the Bureau for Education Development, working with Goce Delchev University (UGD) in Štip, published an 'Artificial Intelligence Guide' for schools, and opened a public call for teachers to apply for a free 'AI in the Classroom' training course, with applications closing 12 September 2025.

Results

As of March 2026, the programme was still in its early implementation phase: a public panel on 'Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Education' held in Bitola reported that workshops and classroom activities had begun building AI literacy, coding skills and digital confidence among participating teachers and students.
