NUS's Technology Transfer and Innovation office has helped secure more than 760 patents and spin off over 120 technology-based companies in five years, with Reuters' 2018 Asia Pacific ranking placing NUS 10th among the region's most innovative universities.
NUS Enterprise's Technology Transfer and Innovation (TTI) office is the commercialisation arm of the National University of Singapore, working with the university's Industry Liaison Office to manage invention disclosures, patenting, licensing and spin-out support.
To convert NUS research into licensed technology and spin-off companies, and to support researchers, students and staff in commercialising university intellectual property.
TTI manages patent filing and licensing and supports the creation of NUS-linked start-ups, including firms such as Subnero (underwater acoustics) and 6Estates (data analytics) built on licensed NUS IP.
Over a five-year period the office reports helping secure more than 760 patents and supporting the creation of more than 120 spin-off companies; NUS was independently ranked 10th in Reuters' 2018 Asia Pacific Most Innovative Universities list, the highest-placed university outside Northeast Asia.
The self-reported patent and spin-off totals are directionally consistent with an independently verified top-10 innovation ranking, but the two figures use different methodologies and could not be cross-checked against each other figure-for-figure.
