NUST Bachelor of Artificial Intelligence — Namibia's First AI Degree, Backed by a Bank of Namibia-Funded Robotics Lab

Namibia had no dedicated university degree in artificial intelligence. On 5 November 2024, the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) and the Bank of Namibia opened the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Accelerator (AIRA) laboratory, equipped with robotics hardware, a 3D printer and a humanoid robot, funded through a Bank of Namibia investment.
Built on that infrastructure, NUST rolled out a Bachelor of Artificial Intelligence and a Bachelor of Artificial Intelligence Honours from 2025, formally launched among 11 new NUST qualifications in January 2026. The curriculum spans natural language processing, bioinformatics, computer vision, AI in cybersecurity and robotics, with stated applications in healthcare, drug discovery, logistics, climate adaptation and agriculture. Admission requires a minimum B in NSSC Ordinary-Level mathematics.
As a newly launched pathway, the programme has no graduates yet, and no learning-outcome, retention or employment data exists; the university's own funding and lab infrastructure are the only evidenced commitments so far.
