Description

Orange Digital Center Guinée opened in Conakry in 2022 as the 13th node of Orange's pan-African and Middle Eastern network of free digital-skills hubs, developed jointly with German development cooperation (GIZ, on behalf of BMZ, through the Invest for Jobs / develoPPP programmes). The 600 m² centre bundles a coding school, a "FabLab Solidaire" workshop with 3D printers, laser cutters and CNC equipment, the Orange Fab startup accelerator, and access to Orange Ventures Africa & Middle East, targeting unemployed and underqualified youth as well as university students.
Orange Guinée's own 2024 corporate social responsibility report, independently relayed by the Guinean outlet GuineeNews, states that the centre trained 6,000 young people in 2024, 30% of them women, and recorded over 600 "socio-professional insertions" (job or self-employment placements). Across the wider 14-country network, GIZ's Invest for Jobs programme reports over 38,000 young people trained and more than 4,600 placed in internships, jobs or their own IT businesses between 2019 and 2023 — figures that describe the network as a whole, not Guinea specifically, since Guinea joined only in 2022.
The Guinea-specific figures come from the operator's own CSR reporting, corroborated by local press relay rather than an independent audit, and the programme's definition of "socio-professional insertion" spans internships, permanent jobs and self-employment without a clear breakdown. As a corporate-donor initiative rather than a public-policy programme, its continuity depends on Orange and GIZ/BMZ maintaining funding rather than being embedded in Guinean government budgets.
