ITI4In 2021, during Italy's G20 Presidency, a Conference was held on women's empowerment, for which the Ambrosetti Club launched a Business Advisory Board with support from the then Italian Minister for Equal Opportunities and the Family, Elena Bonetti. In 2022, The European House - Ambrosetti launched a permanent, independent Observatory on Women's Empowerment covering G20 countries plus Spain, in partnership with a group of companies.
The Working Group's objectives are to analyse female labour-market inclusion in Italy, identify the underlying causes of low female labour-market participation, develop related economic scenarios, and develop policy proposals and a short-to-medium-term strategy for gender equity in the Italian labour market.
The Observatory analysed more than 50 policies on women's empowerment across G20 countries plus Spain, identifying best-practice categories in leadership and political participation, corporate leadership, and women in tech and digital. It also developed the Women's Empowerment Progress Index (WEPI) to measure, monitor and track G20-plus-Spain countries' progress on female empowerment.
Analyses and recommendations are shared with Italy's Department for Equal Opportunities and the Family to inform welfare policy.
