Description

Poznań Science and Technology Park (PPNT) of the Adam Mickiewicz University Foundation was Poland's first science and technology park to operate under market conditions, established in 1995 to move university research into industry.

What it does: PPNT provides 60 research labs and over 11,000 m² of space across a 5.4-hectare site for companies in chemistry, biotechnology, ICT and telecommunications, alongside incubation support and its own capital fund that co-invests in spin-out and early-stage companies linked to the park's research base.

Results: the park currently hosts around 80 companies, with other counts putting active tenants, start-ups and scientific centres at close to 100. Its capital fund has directly invested in 13 newly created chemical, biotech and IT companies, and over more than a decade has provided capital totalling over 8 million PLN to 19 companies in their early development phase.

Why it's a good practice: as Poland's first market-based science park, it created a replicable template — university foundation ownership, lab infrastructure plus a dedicated early-stage capital fund — that has since been mirrored by other Polish science and technology parks.
