Context

Prayatna Nepal is a non-profit, women-led disabled persons' organisation founded in 2015 by Sarita Lamichhane, a blind woman from Gorkha, to advance the rights and independence of women and girls with visual impairment in Nepal.

Activities

Under its 'Promoting Digital Rights' project, the organisation audited 20 public and private-sector websites and 10 mobile applications against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

Results

On 15 December 2022, Prayatna Nepal convened a half-day validation workshop in Kathmandu, bringing together 47 representatives from government bodies, the National Human Rights Commission, UN agencies, international NGOs and organisations of persons with disabilities to review the audit findings. Recurring barriers identified included poor navigation design, illogical heading structures and missing captions on multimedia content.
