Royal Science and Technology Park — Eswatini's Legislated Innovation and Biotech Zone

The Royal Science and Technology Park (RSTP) was established by an Act of Parliament of the Kingdom of Eswatini in 2012 as a public enterprise and special economic zone, split between a Biotechnology Park at Nokwane (159 hectares) and an Innovation Park at Phocweni, home to the Songcondvongcondvo Wemaswati House — a 4-hectare facility housing the National Data Centre, an IT school, a national contact centre and RSTP's business incubator.

The incubator supports start-ups across ICT, biotechnology, agriculture and food, climate adaptation, and indigenous knowledge systems, offering co-working space, company registration and IP-protection facilitation, fundraising support and mentorship. Businesses that have gone through the programme and are cited in RSTP's own materials include Smiling Through Investments, Simple Source, Rocile Investments, Hygiene Enviro and Sanitation, Farm to Table and DJD Investment. As an institution, RSTP reported $25.5 million in annual revenue and 48 employees in 2025.

Despite this institutional scale, RSTP has not published quantified incubator outcomes — numbers of start-ups graduated, jobs created, or survival/growth rates — so this catalogue scores its evidence of impact as low: a legislated, revenue-generating institution with credible services, but limited public accountability on what its incubation work actually delivers for founders.
