Kampala-based tech hub Hive Colab built a Digital Literacy and Digital Financial Literacy Toolkit together with the UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and Uganda's National Information Technology Authority (NITA-U), targeting women, youth and refugees in the Abim, Gulu, Lira, Isingiro and Koboko districts. Ten local NGO "anchor partners" and 300 trained Trainers of Trainers delivered the toolkit — built in five local languages and hosted on NITA-U's open-source interactive voice response (IVR) platform — to reach people with low literacy and limited smartphone access, including smallholder farmers and refugee communities.
By the end of 2022, an interim 55,000 people had been reached against a full-project target of training 90,000 women, youth and refugees in digital and digital-financial literacy by the project's close in 2024.
The only figures publicly available are interim (end-2022) ones reported by the implementing partners, Hive Colab and UNCDF, themselves. No independent completion report or third-party evaluation confirming whether the 90,000 target was ultimately met, and no public budget figure, could be located.
