Slovakia's National Plan for the Responsible Use of AI in Education (2025–2027)

Slovakia's Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport launched a National Plan for the Responsible Use of AI in Education (2025-2027) in September 2025, responding to a gap where 70-80% of pupils were already using AI for schoolwork while only around 25% of teachers had integrated it into lessons.

Establish guidance, safeguards, and equitable access to AI tools in schools while building teacher AI competency, organised around four founding principles (accessibility, equality, quality, safety) and five core initiatives: classroom AI instruction, equal access to AI tools, reducing teacher administrative burden, modernising education-data governance, and supporting AI research and tool development.

A national AI competencies framework was published for teaching staff. Around 100 schools participated in mandatory 'AI Days' (October-November 2025) to pilot classroom AI use and identify risks. AI literacy is being integrated into the compulsory state curriculum from the 2026/27 school year, and AI Competence Centres are planned at public higher-education institutions between 2026 and 2029.

As of mid-2026 the plan remains in an early implementation phase: the competencies framework has been published and roughly 100 schools have taken part in AI Days, but methodological guidance on privacy, human oversight, and safe classroom use was still being finalised, and no independent evaluation of the pilots or the framework had been published.

The plan surfaces a significant discrepancy between pupil AI-adoption rates (70-80%) and teacher integration (~25%), which prompted the national strategy; however, outcome evidence is not yet available given the early implementation stage.
