The main objective of this initiative was to contribute to promoting greater interaction with family and friends, helping people to acquire some basic skills that would allow them to lessen the effects of isolation to which they were subjected. In parallel, small explanatory tutorials were developed on the use of applications such as Skype, WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and an advertising campaign was developed for TV, Radio and Digital that featured Sílvia Rizzo and Diogo Faro as protagonists!
Between April 7 and July 31 2020 several national entities came together to help the Portuguese population with poor digital skills to better deal with the situation of isolation in which the majority of the population found themselves.
A free telephone line was made available (800 100 555) for people to ask for help from teams of volunteer mentors recruited from higher education institutions.
The Initiative involved more than 160 volunteers who joined the project, in a total of 115 days of service and more than 920 hours of support. The most requested application was the WhatsApp.
After the most critical phase of our confinement and the importance of the line in supporting the population, it is unanimously agreed that it may be opportune to adapt it to other models so that it becomes a transversal tool to the entire INCoDe.2030 program.
Context: Covid-19 has imposed social and professional constraints with the changes in everyone's lives being enormous. There are still a significant number of people in Portugal who do not have basic digital skills and have suffered even more so as a result.
Stakeholders involved: INCODE2030, FCT, DTX
164 Volunteers
6 Higher Education Institutions: With the support of the operator NOS for the execution of the helpline, the project was coordinated by Digital TransformationColab (DTx) and by the National Computing Unit of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT / FCCN) and counted on the participation of the Polytechnic Institute do Cávado and Ave (IPCA), the Academic Association of the University of Minho (AAUM), the University and the Academic Association of Coimbra (UC / AAUC), Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNL), the Nucleus of Biology and Geology Students from the University of Aveiro (Nebg-AAUV) and the Polytechnic of Porto (IPP).
