Suriname's EU–CDB MSME Export-Readiness Programme

Launched in Paramaribo on 20 October 2022, the Innovation for Firms component of the Suriname Business Climate and Innovation Programme (SUBCIP) is financed through the EUR 8.75 million CARIFORUM-EU Economic Partnership Agreement and CSME Standby Facility for Capacity Building, jointly delivered by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), the European Union and Suriname's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Consumer Affairs, which contributes 25 percent of the EUR 394,622 project cost.
Over 22 months the programme works with 60 micro, small and medium-sized enterprises on market research, brand development and export-readiness skills, targeting entry into the neighbouring CARICOM markets of Barbados, Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago, with explicit outreach to women, youth and rural entrepreneurs.
Public reporting to date - from the CDB and from the St Kitts and Nevis government's own newswire, which carried the same CDB release - documents the programme's design, financing structure and enrolment target, but no source yet reports post-completion outcomes such as realised export sales, contracts won or jobs created.
The project sits inside a wider EUR 8.75 million regional Standby Facility that the EU and CDB use to fund comparable capacity-building and trade-facilitation projects across CARIFORUM states, indicating a replicable financing model rather than a one-off grant.
