Description

Tai (formerly Tai Impact) is a youth-led NGO founded in 2013 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, that uses storytelling — 3D animation, comics, radio drama and audio stories — combined with digital distribution (broadcast, social media, YouTube) to make education more inclusive for young people facing social barriers, including disability, early pregnancy and poverty.
The organisation reports operating across 17 Tanzanian regions and 4 Kenyan counties, reaching over 100 schools and 100,000 students directly through school and community delivery, plus over 17 million people through animation, comics, audio stories and broadcast/social media. Content is distributed to 50+ countries via YouTube, with 2.3 million views recorded. Tai tracks year-on-year learner cohorts: 15,100 in 2023, 14,700 in 2024 and 12,500 in 2025.
An independent Academy/Advisory Board review by HundrED rated the innovation 'Exceptional' for both impact and scalability. Tai gathers structured feedback from viewers, educators and community leaders through surveys and focus groups, and tracks outcomes such as participation in programmes addressing sexual and reproductive health and disability rights.
Caution: figures are self-reported by the organisation and its HundrED profile; no independent randomised or quasi-experimental evaluation was identified, and the year-on-year decline in tracked learner numbers (15,100 to 12,500) is not explained in available sources.
