TAISS 2026 — Togo's First National AI Summer School for Students and Researchers

From 24 to 29 August 2026, Togo's Ministry of Public Service Efficiency and Digital Transformation, through the newly created Togo AI Lab, ran the country's first Togo AI Summer School (TAISS 2026) in Lomé. The programme brought together 100 students, researchers and young professionals for a week of technical courses and hands-on workshops covering core AI and data-science tools including Python, Docker and MLflow.

Beyond technical skills, TAISS 2026 included dedicated modules on data governance and on applying AI to challenges specific to African contexts, positioning the school as a foundation for a domestic AI talent pipeline rather than a one-off training event.

The school was organised with support from GIZ's ProDigiT programme, co-financed by Germany, Luxembourg and the European Union, reflecting Togo's wider digital-transformation strategy. As a first edition, TAISS 2026 has not yet been externally evaluated for learning outcomes or graduate placement; participation figures and curriculum content are documented by the organisers and independent Togolese press, but rigorous before/after assessment is not yet available.
