Context

Technopole de La Réunion was created in 2001 through a joint effort of the island's public institutions, higher-education and research bodies, training providers and businesses, operating two science and technology parks (Technor, Techsud) plus a MESRI-labelled business incubator.

Activities

The incubator evaluates roughly 30 projects a year across ICT, environment, agribusiness, health/biotechnology and emerging sectors.

Results

Since 2003, 83 projects have been incubated, of which 71 completed incubation and 51 became registered companies, credited with creating more than 210 direct and indirect jobs on an incubator investment of about EUR 3.7 million; 85% of companies created were reported still active.

Conclusions

These figures are self-reported by the incubator to trade and regional press rather than published in an independently audited impact evaluation; a separately reported 'transformation rate' of 76% and a somewhat different job count likely reflect a different reporting date or narrower measure.
