The Trans e-Scouts project was intended to "raise awareness of the contribution that older people make to society, and strengthen solidarity between generations".
Trans e-Scouts put the emphasis on facilitating socio-digital inclusion between the two younger and older generations in local communities while staff at telecentres, known as e-Facilitators, were trained to play a major role bringing together the two. The notion of inter-generational learning in practice means that young people teach their senior peers how to use ICT while the elderly supports youth in giving advice and sharing their knowledge about the labour market and common challenges of adulthood.
eFacilitators already active in the social field in intergenerational skills, were trained to become the key actors and facilitate intergenerational dialogue between senior and young citizens. As an added value, the project also addresses two other important aims:
1) the digital inclusion of seniors in the digital divide;
2) the guidance of vulnerable youngsters in adult life and employability skills and attitudes.
The project aimed to transfer the successful "Intergenerational Learning Circle", from Spain to 3 new European countries - Latvia, Lithuania and Croatia, through a previous context analysis and localisation process, to ensure the Circle's practicality and feasibility at the local level. The process was based on the "Intergenerational Learning in Blended Environments and Spaces - ILBES" methodology. The whole learning process was mediated by ICT means (social web applications) and Blended Environments and Spaces.
Through this process, they achieved the initial and direct aims of the project, and also:
1. Improved key competences for lifelong learning like digital, cultural, social or interpersonal.
2. The ability of learning to learn.
3. Contribution to reduce alienation, social passivity and isolation in the two identified social groups.
4. Promotion of social cohesion.
Context: Digital skills are becoming increasingly important in today's world. The computer and the internet influence the communication of people with each other as well as their participation in society. The ability to deal with digital media is therefore essential for social participation. Since many people still are not online yet or have difficulties dealing with the digital world, the people who provide accessibility to the internet and try to make the digital media more understandable and available are becoming more important. That content and issues are included in the project Trans eScouts.
