Description

On 1 June 2026, Turkmenistan's State Customs Service added an AI-based assistant to its Single Window for Export-Import Operations web portal, developed in cooperation with the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The tool works in Turkmen, Russian and English, and lets traders look up Harmonized System commodity codes, check required permits, and get an indicative customs-duty calculation before filing.
The announcement gave no usage figures, processing-time data, or accuracy benchmarks, and none has surfaced since. In September 2026 the World Customs Organization opened a regional training centre in Ashgabat and ran a first seminar on AI-based risk management for about 30 customs officers — a sign the human side of the system is still being built out three months after launch.
