UNESCO–Jamaica Teaching Council AI-in-Education Workshops for Teachers

On 10 and 17 October 2025, UNESCO's Office for the Caribbean and the Jamaica Teaching Council — an agency of the Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information — held AI-in-Education workshops in Montego Bay and Kingston, drawing over 400 teachers, school leaders and education stakeholders from across the island.

Sessions covered the fundamentals of AI and its relevance to Jamaica's education system, ethical considerations including data privacy, equity and academic integrity, hands-on experimentation with AI tools for lesson delivery, student assessment and classroom engagement, and the development of individual action plans for school-level implementation.

The workshops were funded through the EU- and Spain-backed National SDG Joint Programme on Digital Transformation for Education, and were independently covered by both the Jamaica Gleaner and the Jamaica Observer. UNESCO Caribbean director Eric Falt framed the effort around the principle that "technology must serve humanity, not the other way around," while Jamaica Teaching Council CEO Dr Winsome Gordon stressed that the goal was to empower, not replace, teachers.

No follow-up assessment of classroom adoption or student outcomes has been published; the workshops are a one-off capacity-building input rather than a sustained coaching programme, so the evidence here is one of reach and stated intent rather than measured impact.
